Derek served 13 years in the U.S. Army before joining the Air Force Reserves in 2019. Derek began his Army tenure as Infantryman stationed in Kentucky and later the Republic of Korea.
Further into his Army tenure he reclassified to a Human Resource Specialist. As an HR Specialist, through a competitive nomination process he was selected to serve on the Secretary of the Army’s immediate staff at the Pentagon.
Derek’s goal of entrepreneurship and desire to continue to work with Veterans in a civilian capacity led him to JDog. Derek intends to utilize his vast experiences gained through the military to further the JDog mission and be an active member of the Black Hills community while working to provide better opportunities for local Veterans. He now lives in Spearfish with his wife Brandee, 3 kids, and pets. There Derek makes his JDog operation a family business with each member contributing to the JDog mission in various ways.

JDog's mission is to grow veteran owned and employed businesses with the goal of reducing the Veteran unemployment rate to below 1%.
